Parker had a very rough night. He wasn't able to rest much at all. They got his Dilaudid pump started at about 10pm. He had pretty significant pain all night and really bad itching that has prevented him from sleeping and resting. At 7am they started a low dose Narcan pump to help with the itching. The itching is a result of the pain meds, they can cause a very intense itching of the skin and may feel like the internal organs are even itching, not relieved of course by scratching.
The pain team should be by this morning as well to assess his pain and the pharmacist was in to discuss some options for his muscle spasms (the Valium made him hallucinate, feel like he was falling, and he thought he was upside down).
His temp has been fluctuating. They drew blood cultures last night but the results won't be in until probably tonight. They figure his temp may go up due to all the trauma his body has been through.
His surgeon wants him up and sitting in a chair today and crying (which will happen moving him that much) to get his lungs cleared out. His O2 sats keep dropping so he needs oxygen. Goodness, he doesn't need pneumonia on top of all of this.
We are hoping to get the pathology results from the tumors this afternoon. With these results the doctors can start planning his chemotherapy and radiation treatment. We are hoping to get an idea of the timeline soon for his treatments.
His left foot is ok now.
There is talk of moving him to his own room but they are hesitating until they get his pain under control better.
Almost 9am
Narcan is helping him to rest and they just gave him an extra bit of dilaudid from his pump. I think I will sneak away to pump (getting past due).
have a great day
with love,
neil and amy
