Oh boy, we are on to another pain med. The fentanyl was causing so much nausea and vomiting. I can't even imagine what it must feel like to vomit when you have been opened up and gutted and your guts have been gutted. The vomiting started about 2am and kept going and of course he hasn't had food since Sunday night so the dry heaves were right behind. He's tried benadryl, zofran, nubain, you name it and I am sure they have taken the edge off but the vomiting has continued.
New pain med: morphine pump and continuous infusion started at about 11am. His IV had to be removed due to swelling of his arm so another IV had to be started and after the 2nd attempt it is in and going. He has so much running: maintenance fluids, narcan, now morhpine and than any prn meds so they needed a line in addition to his mediport.
He is also getting rectal tylenol to help with the pain and decrease the dose of the morphine a bit. (normally oncology patients cannot have rectal anything but he is not currently neutropenic so his onc. dr said ok since he can't hold down the oral tylenol).
His urine output is still good. He is getting blood now in his urine but is thought to be ok and showing his kidneys are picking up some. They continue to monitor his blood counts of course too.
His blood pressure is getting too high. Last reading is 168/115 now at rest. The nurse is calling nephrology. His little body may need some extra help getting rid of some fluid for a while.
He has had one vomiting episode so far on the morphine. The narcan is started again so his itching seems to be better.
He had another breathing treatment today with the 02. He now just does it without a fuss. He has a cute little penguin O2 mask to wear and actually wants it on now. His O2 sats will drop too low without the oxygen still but they are saying his lungs are sounding better. We told him that the respiratory therapist was on his way to give Hulk his treatment and just finished up with Spider Man so this made him a little more ok with it.
It has been a tough road for him so far and still more to go but he is tough like Hulk and Spider Man and just keeps knocking em down when they come his way.
Renal docs just called and they are coming by to discuss his blood pressures soon.
Thank you everyone for you support, texts, and messages. It means so much and is so helpful to keep everyones spirits up.
Will let you know more soon I hope.
with love,
neil and amy
