Super Sibs

What is Super Sibs? Well to us it is the neatest thing created for the siblings of those with pediatric cancers. Check out the website at www.supersibs.org. This organization was created in 2002 and helps the siblings of those with cancer to not feel forgotten and overlooked. Often the siblings feel so left out when all of the attention is placed on the one with the illness. Karsyn is only 5 years old and has handled the past 5 months absolutely amazing. He knows that Parker has cancer but doesn't understand what cancer is exactly and how serious Parker's condition is. He doesn't understand that Parker could be affected in the future from his current treatments. However, we are thankful for this because he is a worrier and this would only complicate his childhood, a happy time, even more. Karsyn is really a mature 5 year old but what kid wouldn't want the attention and showers of affection that people offer an ill child more readily. When a gift or card comes in the mail for Parker he asks well where is mine? We would tell him it was for both of them but he can read his own name and outsmarted me on this one saying, Mom that doesn't say Karsyn, it isn't for me. So then we would just hide any incoming items and incorporate them when I had something to add for Karsyn too. We realize that no one would ever intentionally leave out another sibling.

This is where Super Sibs has really helped Karsyn. Karsyn will get things in the mail just for him. A few months back he got a letter and picture from a professional soccer player that was also a sibling to brother with cancer. He got the trophy (picture in the photo gallery) and this was just what he needed. He became the winner and was praised for his participation in this long journey.

Karsyn is also our Superhero for all that he has been through right beside his little brother. He has had to watch parker cry, puke, be in pain, suffer from the side effects of his medicine, take time out from preschool, stay home from birthday parties and family outings and he has sacrificed many other things as well. He very rarely complains and is quite protective over his little buddy.

Karsyn we all love and admire you so much!! You are a fighter as well in this battle and we thank you for being you.

He alWays tells me when I have had a bad day at work, "Mom nothing is more important than us, your family. Nothing is more important than Parker, me and baby Logynn and daddy." HE IS SOOO RIGHT!!! PRETTY DEEP FOR A 5 YEAR OLD I THINK!!
